Writers' guidelines

The Anglican Journal is the national newspaper of the Anglican Church of Canada. It covers news of the Anglican church across the country and around the world, as well as news of other denominations. It also covers social and ethical issues.

Stories should be of interest to a national audience. They are usually about a national event, a local happening, which reflects the larger picture, or a local happening, which is relatively unusual.

The newspaper also includes book reviews and occasional film, music and theatre reviews of interest to a national audience. Material for consideration can be forwarded to the Anglican Journal at the address below.

Articles should be written in news style (we follow Canadian Press style), as briefly as possible. The maximum length is usually 1,000 words. Articles should focus on theological or spiritual issues of interest to the church or society.

You should submit a query before proceeding with an article. If we commission it, we pay upon publication. Our basic rate is 25¢ per published word; features range from $150 to $250; short news stories and sidebars $50 to $75; columns are $150 flat rate; reviews are $150 (plus the book). Rates apply unless otherwise agreed to in writing with the editor.

The Anglican Journal is produced on an IBM PC desktop computer system. Stories must be e-mailed or supplied on disk in a readable format.

A photo or illustration should accompany your article. We prefer colour glossy photos with high contrast for conversion to black and white.  Electronic photos should be JPG format at no less than 300 pixels per inch resolution.
