The chairperson of a group campaigning for women bishops says she is disappointed that the Rev. Alison Peden was not elected Britain's first female Anglican bishop but that it is, "significant and encouraging" for a woman to have been one of the three candidates that the Scottish Episcopal Church considered.

January 9, 2010 'We just wish it would all go away'

There is “general pessimism” among bishops of the Anglican Church of Canada about the potential for “any clear resolution” of the divisive issue of sexuality at the church’s upcoming General Synod in Halifax this June. At the Vatican in Rome, the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and Pope Benedict XVI reaffirmed their “shared will to continue and to consolidate the ecumenical relationship between the worldwide Anglican Communion and the Church of Rome.” Plans for an Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC), to begin later this year, are underway.

A new bishop will be appointed for the Episcopal Diocese of Cuba. This, after two special electoral synods failed to elect a successor to Bishop Miguel Tamayo Zaldivar, who plans to retire early next year after serving as interim bishop for six years.
