Elaine Craig

Elaine Craig, a life-long Anglican and founder of Craig Canadian Group Travel Ltd., died suddenly on April 11 at Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital. She was 81.

Mrs. Craig founded the Toronto-based Craig Travel in 1969. She worked closely with the then Canadian Churchman to develop high-quality tour packages lead by church leaders. The aim was to provide not only interesting and insightful holidays, but also to allow the leaders to "travel the world at a time when church incomes were close to the poverty line," said her son, David Craig. Craig Travel has consistently held a full-page advertisement on the back page of the now Anglican Journal for almost 30 years.

Former wife of Canon James Craig, of Vancouver, B.C., Mrs. Craig was born in Chepstow, Wales. She emigrated as a child to Canada and settled in Vancouver with her family. The couple lived and worked in parishes in Vancouver, Calgary, Sault Ste. Marie and Toronto's Grace Church-on- the-Hill.

Mrs. Craig is fondly remembered by both family and friends as a cheerful, vibrant woman who had a deep and abiding interest in the church and in the people she met. She is survived by two sons, David and John, daughter Myrna, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
