An art historian has confirmed that a painting at St. Alban’s Cathedral in Prince Albert, Sask., is one of the few surviving paintings of British pre-Raphaelite artist Kate Elizabeth Bunce. Jan Marsh, an art historian based in London, England, visited Prince Albert in July and said she had heard about the painting of the English martyr St. Alban.

“Kate Bunce mentioned the painting and its destination in her will, which was reported by newspapers in Birmingham, U.K., where she lived and died,” Ms. Marsh told The Prince Albert Daily Herald. The newspaper said that Ms. Bunce, who never visited Canada, might have done the painting as a gift to the church after meeting someone from Prince Albert.

Fred Payton, warden at St. Alban’s Cathedral, said there are no plans to sell the now-famous painting.
