Daybreak House, a six-unit building in Calgary that provides accommodation for refugees in transition, faces an uncertain future after it sustained damage in heavy spring rains, reported Nina Chiba, co-ordinator for the refugee committee of the diocese of Calgary. The refugee committee planned to apply to the Toronto-based Anglican Foundation for a grant. In addition, several parishes, individuals and Anglican Church Women chapters have contributed toward repairs. “We still intend to celebrate our 21st year of refugee ministry,” Ms. Chiba wrote in the September issue of The Sower, the diocesan newspaper, “but our fall plans will need to be severely reduced.”
