‘Extraordinary’ honour

Bishop Ralph Spence, of the diocese of Niagara, on Oct. 27 was one of three people honoured for their contributions to the field of heraldry in Canada. Governor General Michaëlle Jean announced that Bishop Spence was named Herald Extraordinary within the Canadian Heraldic Authority. Established in 1988, the authority is responsible for the creation of new coats of arms, flags and badges for Canadian citizens and corporate bodies.
