Canon Eric Beresford, consultant for ethics and inter-faith relations in the faith, worship and ministry department of the Anglican Church of Canada, has been appointed president of the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax . He assumes his new position Dec. 1.

Mr. Beresford joined the national office in 1996 and ?has been invaluable as the church has steered its way through the turbulent waters of the human sexuality debates,? said Canon Alyson Barnett-Cowan, director of faith, worship and ministry.

He has also worked on issues involving environmental ethics, and has assisted the Anglican Consultative Council in dealing with Lambeth resolutions on ethical issues surrounding technology and the environment.

Mr. Beresford was formerly assistant professor in the faculty of religious studies at McGill University , Montreal . He has degrees from the University of Liverpool, England, and a certificate in theology from Oxford University , England .
