Canon John Caird

Canon John Caird, a retired parish priest and founding member of the Anglican Editors Association, died Aug. 5 in Winnipeg after a 10-year battle with kidney cancer.

Mr. Caird, born in 1939 in Edinburgh. He obtained a science degree at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, and immigrated to Canada in 1965. He obtained his master of divinity from St. John's College, Winnipeg, and was ordained a priest in 1978. He served parishes in the diocese of Rupert's Land and retired in 2002.

From 1986 to 2002 he was the editor of Rupert's Land News, the newspaper of the diocese of Rupert's Land and was a founding member of the Anglican Editors Association, a professional organization of editors of diocesan newspapers.

Mr. Caird is survived by his wife Anne and children Robin and Meredith.
