The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, visited the site of one of two synagogues badly damaged in the Nov. 15 bombings in Istanbul. The attacks by suicide bombers killed 25 people and injured hundreds more.

Speaking outside the Neva Shalom synagogue less than a week after the attack, Archbishop Williams said, "This is a heart breaking sight. In a place where the relationship between Muslims, Jews and Christians is one of co-operation and goodwill, an attack on a synagogue is an attack on every Muslim, Jew and Christian.

"I know that this tragedy will draw the religious communities even closer together and they will work to ensure that the hatred that breeds violence of this kind cannot flourish," he said.
