The General Synod archives will be closed to staff and the public from April 6 to June 8, and the library from April 12 to May 10, as the national office of the Anglican Church of Canada prepares to move to its new quarters at 80 Hayden St. , Toronto , on the weekend of April 24-25.

No appointments will be accepted during this period, said General Synod archivist Nancy Hurn.

Librarian Karen Evans said that while the library will not allow walk-in researchers during this period, requests may be submitted via e-mail (information@national.anglican.ca) or phone (416-924-9199 ext. 327) and the library will try to accommodate them.

"We have to move 200 years of records and they take a lot of care in handling," Ms. Hurn said, explaining why the archives will be closed for more than two months. The archives has also been identifying materials from its vault to see what should be kept for historical purposes.

The library has already began "weeding out" the materials that will not move; some books and documents have been sent to Trinity College , which will archive them, Ms. Evans added.
