Canon Glyn Jones, 65, has retired as secretary general of The Mission to Seafarers after 11 years in the position. Mission to Seafarers maintains service centres and chapels for sailors at about 300 ports. He was succeeded by Canon Bill Christianson.

Canon Jones served the society for 28 years, joining in Swansea, Wales. He also served as senior chaplain in the Port of London, was appointed the society's assistant general secretary in 1985 and secretary general in 1990.
