Priorities identified

A priorities task force in the diocese of New Westminster has identified four main priorities which it is asking deanery meetings to discuss.

The priorities are Christian formation, congregational development, outreach ministry, and enhancing diocesan unity.

The priorities task force was appointed by Bishop Michael Ingham last spring. It circulated a questionnaire to diocesan synod delegates in May, asking them what they thought New Westminster should spent its time, money and energy on in the next five years.

Topic

Sorrento to be host

Sorrento Centre in Kootenay diocese has been chosen as the location for the first project of the Breakaway Hockey Foundation, an independent charitable organization that works with disadvantaged young people by helping them develop skills in athletics and the arts.

About 20 young people, most of them Native children between the ages of 14 and 15, will be housed and fed at Sorrento for the next 10 months while they participate in the BHF programs.

The young people come from Native communities across the country, including Davis Inlet, Labrador, Pelly's Crossing, Yukon Territory, and other First Nation communities.
