Meet the Journal team at General Synod 2016

Meet the team that will bring you the latest stories, photos, special features, behind-the-scenes coverage and more:

On-site staff

Marites (Tess) Sison joined the Anglican Journal in 2003 as  senior staff writer and was appointed editor on Aug. 1, 2014. An award-winning journalist, Sison has worked as correspondent for  the World Press Review in New York and stringer for the New York Times in Southeast Asia. She has also been a contributor to CBC Radio,Toronto Star, and the Toronto Sun. From 1987 through 2003, she was a fellow with the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism and has authored and co-authored several books.

André Forget joined the Anglican Journal in 2014 as staff writer and social media lead. He also serves as managing editor of Whether Magazine, and his writing has appeared in The Dalhousie Review, The Winnipeg Review, and the Town Crier.

Tali Folkins joined the Anglican Journal in 2015 as staff writer. He has worked as a staff reporter for the Law Times and the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. His writing credits include work in such publications as The Globe and Mail and The United Church Observer. He has also worked for Atlantic Progress (now Progress Magazine) and U of T Magazine, and as communications manager for the Royal Bank of Canada.

Art Babych was the former editor of Crosstalk, the newspaper of the diocese of Ottawa, is an award-winning photographer and journalist. Babych will be on special assignment as photographer for the Anglican Journal and General Synod communications at General Synod 2016.

Beverly Murphy is circulation manager for the Anglican Journal and senior manager for General Synod communications and information resources. Look for her at Booth 30, the Anglican Journal’s booth at General Synod, for any inquiries about the newspaper.

Ben Graves worked as an intern for the Anglican Journal until August 2015. He will cover General Synod 2016 as a special contributor.


Off-site staff

Saskia Rowley is an award-winning art director who has worked for the Anglican Journal since 1996. She also heads the Graphics and Print Production Department for the national office of the Anglican Church of Canada, is past vice president of the Canadian Church Press, and a professional member of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario and member of the Society of News Designers (SND).

Janet Thomas joined Anglican Journal staff in 2010 as Assistant to the Editor. She has worked in the communications department of the Anglican Church of Canada for more than 20 years, in both print and video production. She is also co-ordinator/manager for ABC Publishing (Anglican Book Centre).
