Nancy Holloway Gunson, an organist at Bishop Stewart Memorial Church in Frelighsburgh and St. James the Apostle in Standbridge East, Que., has created a Facebook group to reunite former residents  of the Julia Drummond Residence.

“After the First World War, the Anglican bishop of Montreal, John Cragg Farthing, became concerned about an increase in the number of single women coming to Montreal to join the labour force. In 1921, he gave a group of Anglican women the task of finding proper housing arrangements for these women,” said an article published by the diocese of Montreal’s newspaper, Montreal Anglican.

The Julia Drummond Residence (formerly the Julia Drummond Hotel Association), was named after a woman who had done similar philanthropic work in England during the war.
